3rd International scil Congress, 22-23 May 2008

Outstanding Third International scil Congress

On 22-23 May 2008, the third International scil Congress took place at the Convention and Executive Education Centre of the University of St.Gallen (WBZ-HSG). The main theme of the Congress was "The changing face of Learning - Creating the right balance".

Participants and Speakers from 14 Countries

In total, 120 participants came to St. Gallen to take part in the Congress. The participants were from 14 countries, including Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France, Israel, the United States, and China. Half the participants had a higher education background, while the other half included representatives from corporations, including the banking, insurance, metal industry, pharmaceutical, aviation, telecommunication and other sectors.

Among others, Erland Joergensen, Head of Knowledge of Innovation & Design, from Shell International (the Netherlands), Nick van Dam, Chief Learning Officer of Deloitte Touche (the Netherlands), Hank Horkoff, of Chinese Pod (China) provided valuable and up-to-date input regarding new approaches of knowledge management and learning in corporations, new business models as well as the new role of professional development.

New Congress Formats

The congress did not only provide interesting content, but also new congress formats including speedgeeking and round table disucssions. Interactive workshops on the concepts of business partnering and Personal Learning Environments took place on Friday afternoon with about 20 participants in each workshop. These gave the opportunity to discuss two of the innovative themes in depth.

Exhibition

Additionally, an exhibition took place with Time4You, the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), CrossKnowledge, Bridge2Think, and scil.

Excellent Feedback

The congress received excellent feedback among both higher education as well as corporate representatives. Especially, the high-quality organization, the international congress atmosphere, as well as the exchange between corporate and higher education representatives was appreciated.
